  10.   This document contains an overview of MediaCD and instructions
  11.   on how to get started.

  14. What is MediaCD 2.0?
  15.  
  16.   MediaCD 2.0 consists of the MediaCD program, and an accompany-
  17.   ing Configuration Editor.
  18.  
  19.   The MediaCD program is a powerful, lightweight application that
  20.   is designed for easy viewing of audio and video files on CDs.
  21.   When burning a CD, simply add MediaCD and several support files
  22.   to the CD; when you insert the disc, MediaCD will run auto-
  23.   matically, displaying a list of the media files on the disc.
  24.   Clicking on a file will play the video or audio file, right in
  25.   the MediaCD window. In addition, MediaCD can also be run from
  26.   your hard drive.

  28.   MediaCD can be customized through use of a configuration file.
  29.   The Configuration Editor lets you create this file, specifying
  30.   custom window colors, images, and supported file formats.

  33. What's New since Version 1.1?
  34.  
  35.   MediaCD 1.1 supported Windows Media Player only, and did not
  36.   allow you to customize any aspect of the program. Version 2.0
  37.   supports customization of the following aspects of MediaCD:

  39.     - Specify the window's title
  40.     - Add custom informational text to the left pane
  41.     - Specify window size, including support for full-screen mode
  42.     - Choose a custom icon for the window
  43.     - Display an image in the background
  44.     - Customize text, hover, and background colors
  45.     - Replace the default list item bullets
  46.     - Play a media file automatically upon startup
  47.     - Turn of automatic sorting into categories and folders
  48.     - Create your own categores
  49.     - Specify which file types to display, and which media player
  50.       to use to play each.

  52.   The default MediaCD configuration supports, in addition to
  53.   Windows Media Player, QuickTime and RealPlayer.

  56. MediaCD 2.0 is Shareware
  57.  
  58.   MediaCD 2.0 is not a free product, but rather is distributed as
  59.   shareware for purposes of evaluation. This gives you the oppor-
  60.   tunity to evaluate MediaCD for up to 30 days before you are
  61.   required to purchase a license. See the file license.txt in the
  62.   installation folder for more information.

  64.   A license for MediaCD 2.0 can be purchased for $12.00 (US
  65.   Dollars) by registering the product with Bot Productions. Your
  66.   registration will grant you a license to use a single copy of
  67.   MediaCD 2.0 on your computer system, and the right to distrib-
  68.   ute custom CDs you create.

  77.   486/66-based or compatible system, or better (Pentium or better
  78.     recommended)
  79.   One of the following Microsoft operating systems:

  84.     Windows 98 with Internet Explorer 5

  88.   CD writer and CD creation software (not required for use

  91.   At least one of the following media players is required:
  92.     Windows Media Player 6.0 or later (6.4 or later recommended)
  93.     QuickTime (version 5 or later recommended)

  96.   CDs you create will run on any system meeting the above
  97.   requirements. MediaCD does not need to be installed on the
  98.   user's hard drive to be run from CD.

  101. Installation

  103.   To install MediaCD, run the mcdsetup.exe program. This will
  104.   begin the MediaCD installation process. MediaCD itself, the
  105.   Configuration Editor, and several sample configurations will be
  106.   copied to a folder on your hard drive (the default folder is
  107.   C:\Program Files\MediaCD). Please note that the sample config-
  108.   urations include a number of empty media files; they are
  109.   provided solely for demonstration purposes.

  112. Getting Started

  114.   Open up the Configuration Editor from the MediaCD group on the
  115.   Start Menu. For help on getting started, click "Getting
  116.   Started" in the help pane at the bottom of the window.

  119. Uninstallation 
  120.  
  121.   To uninstall MediaCD, open the Control Panel and run the
  122.   Add/Remove programs applet. Select "MediaCD" from the list of
  123.   installed programs and click the "Add/Remove..." button. This
  124.   will delete the files that the installer placed in the MediaCD
  125.   program folder. CDs you created (and folders containing
  126.   MediaCD.exe) will continue to function after uninstallation.
